Most probably are unaware of the origin of this famous quote. A little girl was upset because her friends said Santa was not real. So she ask her father if Santa Claus was real, and he told her to write a letter to the NY Sun editor and if the Sun said Santa was real, it had to be so. They published her letter and the editor wrote in his response Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus.
In these troubling times, it is comforting to know there is a Sanity Clause in our human contract. It comes in the form of brave people who have the courage to stand up and put there lives and futures on the line for there beliefs. Some of these include the Standing Rock water protectors, the high school students in Parkland Florida, Colin Kaepernick, the Hong Kong protesters who are fighting for there freedom, and now Greta Thunberg the 16 year old Swede girl who has championed the fight against the environmental disaster that will be her future.
My hope is that enough young people worldwide will stand up and use their economic power to make change happen. The only people that don't believe in the effects of climate change, are either uneducated on the issue, or are benefiting from no change being made. I think money talks and a worldwide boycott of companies that refuse to put the future ahead of profits can start to bring change. I think it is too late for millions, that will face famine in the next 10-15 years, and those whose islands that they have inhabited for centuries are being lost to rising sea levels. This fight belongs to all of us.
