THE TWILIGHT ZONE

Picture this if you will. A small town anywhere on the North American continent. Average people on an average day on Maple Street USA. All the sudden a flash of light in the sky as Maple street enters the twilight zone. 

My lawn mower just stopped Nancy said aggravatedly. Donald who was building a dog house yelled the power is off to my tools. Mitch who was trying to pay his bills said the power must be off all around the neighborhood. Hillary who was emailing friends confirmed Mitch's diagnosis saying even the phone lines are down. Mike decided to drive down town to see if anyone knew what was going on, but to his dismay his car wouldn't start. Joe, who was reading on the porch, said that  the article he was reading stated that aliens would plant a family to infiltrate the neighborhood and use them to take over the town. Everyone scoffed at Joes idea until the power came on at Hillary's house and no one else's . Everyone started  to become suspicious that maybe Hillary was an alien. Just when they were about to grab her, the power went off at her place and Mike's car just started with no one in it. As they started to confront Mike about his car, it quit and Donald's power tools started running by themselves. Paranoia was starting to set in. Donald's power tools quit, but Nancy's lawn mower started running by itself. With everyone accusing each other it wasn't long before violence showed its ugly head. First it was fists, then rocks and then guns blazed until all the neighbors lay wounded or dead.  Up above Maple street sat a team of Russian scientists with their power regulator laughing at how easy Americans are to get to self imploded.

Yes this is the framework of a Twilight Zone episode entitled Monsters are Due on Maple Street. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. The Justice Dept. recently stated that approx. 50% of the post on social media are from "bots" with the intent to spread disinformation on both sides. Someone wants our country to self destruct, turning against each other by spreading lies  to fan the dislike, distrust, and hatred of people with different opinions. Let me give you a hint, the culprit is not named Nancy, Donald, Mike, Hillary, Mitch, Joe, or even George. In the TV version it was aliens. In real life who gains if the US self destructs?
